AL LLOYD PLAYED and managed softball in the County for 28 years and has been retired from the game for ten years. He began playing softball in 1968 moving over from baseball. His homerun prowess was quick to get him playing on the area's top ranked league and tournament teams. He is still remember in local softball circles for his homerun power. Over the years he repeatedly led his teams to their league championships while leading the league in homerun production.. His love and dedication to the sport and his fierce competitive nature was an inspiration to all his teammates. He is best remembered for playing with Sloper's, Brown's Insurance and Shakey's Pizza.

BOBBY COLEMAN HAS BEEN a participant in softball in the County for 30 years. He played at a very competitive level for 22 years and was named to numerous All American teams at the highest levels of national tournament competition.  He was placed on the Major Player List for six years and his teams won five National Championships.  Locally, his league teams have won 15 league championships.  He had double hip replacement surgery in 2007 and got back on the field the next season.  He now plays for the Mid Atlantic 50+ Major Team.

CHARLIE HUTCHISON HAS has been playing softball in the area since 1970. He broke in locally as an outfielder and is well remembered as quite a power hitter. He now pitches in the senior division. In 1989 he was named to the Journal Messenger all-time softball team for the area. Prior to moving to the senior division, his teams qualified for State championship competition 22 straight years. He was a member of the Creative Builders senior team that captured the 2007 ISF 50C Senior World Cup Championship.

JACK CANTRELL IS a Dumfries resident. He began playing adult slowpitch softball in Woodbridge in the nineties while in his forties. However, once he brought his athletic skills to the softball diamonds he quickly became one of the area's outstanding softball participants. He began his career playing for Jim Bodmer in the Masters Division. In 2002 he moved up to the Senior Division playing shortstop for the All Star Sports team in the County league and for Murphy's Law in tournament competition. Jack was selected for the ISSA All World team in 2003, 2004 and 2006. Also, in 2006 he was named MVP, Homerun leader and All American at the ASA National Championships. He continues to play in the senior division with the Northern Virginia Force 60+ Major team.


JR Rankin

JR Rankin

JR RANKIN IS Manassas area resident that is well known throughout softball circles. He retired from his position as Director of the Juvenile Court Service Unit, Virginia Department of Corrections in 2010 and he and his wife moved to the Strausburg area. He had been a participant in the County softball leagues since 1971. Like many of the local Hall of Famer's he began playing for Lester Leonard and continued playing on Leonard's teams for most of his career winning many league championships. Based on his competitiveness, skills and leadership he has always commanded the respect of his teammates and coaches. Over the 40 years that he played locally he has been honored with several sportsmanship awards. In 2007 he helped lead his Sloper's Stitch House senior team to the Class 50AA ISSA World Championship.


Pete Carruthers

Pete Carruthers

PETE CARRUTHERS BEGAN playing softball in 1961 while in the military stationed in Seoul, South Korea. He competed every year during his 23 year military career before retiring to live in Manassas and work as a support system manager for UOSA for the next 22 years. He has participated in County softball competition for 24 years and is one of the most skillful pitchers in the area. Over the years he has led his church and men's league teams to numerous league championships. He was selected as an MVP in the 2005 ISF Senior World Cup. He has now been playing softball for 45 years and continues to play for Manassas St. Thomas Church and the Gents Senior team.
